Share air time and encourage all members to participate DRAFT MINUTES The September 15th, 2021 meeting of the Empowered Teens Coalition was held at the Zoom meeting 3:30 – 4:30 PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: Reports: community update and news; Review approved action plan; scheduling Life Skills and Vaping-prevention Education; CHIP strategic plan and mental health promotion / suicide prevention in the schools – staff and students. Facilitators for this meeting: Denise Banker In attendance: Mark Gudger (Education), Lindsay Scalf (Other Substance Abuse coalition), Joe Nole (Law Enforcement), Chris HoffmanHill (Civic), Melinda Miller (Education), Ciela Meyer (Mental Health), Kate Dean (Government), Cheryl Weinstein (Dove House, Business), Heather (Teen Center Mgr., Youth Serving org.), Emily Abell (OlyCAP, Youth Serving Agency), Dana Milagrosa,(Discovery Behavioral Health, Mental Health), Mark Mauk (Schools, Superintendent), Rachel Rae (Other Prevention Coalition), Josh Fey (Law Enforcement, PA), Richard Davies (Therapeutic Courts), Samuel Swenson-Daly (SAP, ESD 114), Tanya Barnett (Family Youth Navigator, Community Organization), Christina Mayer (School Board, Chair), Time/Facilitator Activity 3:30 Denise Called meeting to order. Approve Agenda: Joe, Chris, all; Minutes: Inadvertently omitted this step. 3:35 All Check in and Update: New members introduced themselves; School district report: Mark reported on Character Strong and Servant Leadership component, added portfolio class, and school climate; Denise, Ciela, and Lindsay reported on hiring for Quilcene coalition coordinator and SAP; Ciela and Denise reported on MH counselors in the schools; Denise reported that a commissioner and she will represent Jefferson County Empowered Teens Coalitions at the upcoming joint superintendents meeting, Oct. 4; Denise explained the approved action plan by going over each component of our deliverables; Denise discussed how to go forward in scheduling Life Skills and Vaping-prevention education, suggested reaching out to Jason to include 6th graders. Discussed CHIP and how we want to go forward in contacting the school districts regarding unified MH promotion / Suicide prevention education in the districts, which is a CHIP goal naming us as responsible implementation party. Life Skills, and will discuss when and how to schedule vaping prevention. ~We will keep investigating how to go forward with school districts re. MH Promotion / Suicide Prevention Education and how we will fund it. ~Our next meeting will be Wednesday, October 20th via Zoom. 4:30 Denise Meeting ended at 4:38. The October 20th, 2021 meeting of the Empowered Teens Coalition will be held at the Via Zoom from 3:30-4:30, unless otherwise notified. ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUG PREVENTION IS GOOD WORK.
