In the matter of a Policy to
Recognize Employees and Elected
Officials who Retire or Leave
Public Office

RESOLUTION NO. 02-03
WHEREAS, Jefferson County employees provide dedicated service to the citizens of the
community; and,
WHEREAS, it is desirous to recognize these individuals as they leave public service by
providing them with a memento of appreciation; and,
WHEREAS, said honorarium shall be consistent with limitations established by statute and be
predominately of sentimental value.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that employees or Elected Officials leaving service
with Jefferson County in good standing and meet the following defined categories, shall be eligible to
receive a memento of recognition and appreciation as approved, authorized and budgeted for by the
Board of Commissioners, to wit:
Elected Official: Leaving office upon completion of term or retiring from public service through
the retirement system.
Retiring Employee: Any employee who has been employed by Jefferson County for at least the
last five years of employment and who officially retires from public service through the
retirement system.
Separating: Employee: Any employee who is separating employment with Jefferson County after
fifteen (15) years or more years of continuous service.
BE IT FURTHER RESOL VED that said memento shall have nominal monetary value in
keeping with the good judgment for the prudent expenditure of public funds.
