From Midkiff Village Road to X

WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works has received a petition to change the county
road name Midkiff Village Road to Attitude Lane, or Boxer Beach Road, or Flamingo Road as
shown on attached Exhibit "A", pursuant to Jefferson County 911 Ordinance Number 2-0401-91
and;
WHEREAS, the petitioner is a property owner on this road, and;
WHEREAS, the petitioner wishes to change this road name, and;
WHEREAS, research has shown that there are three (3) addresses assigned on this
milepost number at this time that will be affected by establishing the road name as shown on
attached Exhibit "B";
WHEREAS, notification was sent to interested parties and the notice of hearing was
published on July 2, 2003 and;
WHEREAS, a response was received by the Jefferson County Sheriffs Office as shown
on attached Exhibit "C" and;
WHEREAS, a response was received Fire District #3 as shown on attached Exhibit "D"
and;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the road be changed to Attitude Lane.

Re: Petitions for Road Name Changes
Midkiff Village Rd Petition-
Jeffcom's position to the Petition of changing Midkiff Village Rd is that of
reluctance. There is no documented reason for the name change as this is not
a new road. Jeffcom along with several other collaborative agencies are
corning up with a re-addressing plan and it is not necessary, nor is it wanted,
to be re-naming roads at the beginning of this process. Jeffcom MSAG
strongly advises against a road name change at this time.
Elk View Petition-
All three choices given by petitioners are denied by Jeffcom MSAG for the
following reason:
Jefferson County has 8 road names that begin with "ELK" and several of
those are located in the Brinnon area already. Due to EMS locator concerns,
all three choices given by petitioners are too similar in name and therefore
denied by Jeffcom MSAG.

RE: Petition for Road Name Change.
The Fire District opposes ANY and ALL road name changes unless there are two or more
roads / streets that are the same. (Example: Mats- Mats is part of several road names),
First responders both fire and police have a difficult time as it is to memorize the location
of roads, streets, lanes, courts, etc. are in Jefferson County, Changing names is a
dangerous practice and should be avoided EVERY TIME the issue is considered.
In addition, the impact of changing maps is significant.
