In the Matter of Supporting Efforts }
to Preserve, Retrofit and Rehabilitate}
the Courthouse Clock Tower }
RESOLUTION NO. 21-02
Whereas, the Jefferson County Courthouse and Clock Tower has been in continuous use
and service to the residents of Jefferson County since its completion in 1892, and;
Whereas, the Jefferson County Courthouse and Clock Tower has been listed on the
Washington Heritage Register and the National Register of Historic Places since 1973, and;
Whereas, the Jefferson County Courthouse and Clock Tower, along with several other
structures in Port Townsend, became National Historic Landmarks in 1976, thereby achieving
the designation of national significance, and;
Whereas, the Jefferson County Courthouse has withstood the ravages oftime and nature
for over 100 years, and;
Whereas, the Jefferson County Courthouse currently requires retrofit and preservation
work to survive the next 100 years, and;
Now therefore be it resolved that the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners endorse
the concept of retrofitting and rehabilitating the Jefferson County Courthouse and Clock Tower,
and support efforts to ensure the Jefferson County Courthouse and Clock Tower continue to
serve the needs of the citizens of Jefferson County.
