WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works has received a petition to change the
county road name Alcohol Loop Road to Hadlock Bay Road, or Hadlock Loop Road, or Port
Hadlock Loop Road as shown on attached Exhibit "A", pursuant to Jefferson County 911
Ordinance Number 2-0401-91 and;
WHEREAS, the petitioner is a property owner on this road, and;
WHEREAS, the petitioner wishes to change this road name to remove the word
alcohol, and;
WHEREAS, research has shown that there are five (5) addresses assigned on this
milepost number at this time that will be affected by establishing the road name as shown on
attached Exhibit "B";
WHEREAS, notification was sent to interested parties and the notice of hearing was
published on June 19th and June 26th and;
WHEREAS, a response was received by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office as
shown on attached Exhibit "C" and;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the road be changed to Hadlock Bay Road.

Hi Pete,
I usually work with Carla on the road names. Per the 911 emergency ordinance (2-0401-91) no new
road names should be duplicative or closely similar to existing names. In addition to the 3 road names
containing Hadlock below there is also Old Hadlock Road and Lower Hadlock Road. There are also
over 10 road names starting with Bay. I received an e-mail from Carla requesting that the name
change not contain Hadlock or Bay due to the possibility of confusion in an emergency situation.
However, if you don't think there is a problem I will incorporate your comments into my BOCC packet
and get the hearing scheduled. Let me know how you want me to proceed.

I'm sorry that our calls kept crossing. I agree with your wish to make the Road name change.
Have you already been turned down for changing the name to Hadlock Bay Rd.? I do not re-
call seeing any paperwork come through my office where I signed on as rejecting the name. I
agree that "Alcohol" definitely does not hold the innocence it once did and a change would be
more palatable with current attitudes.

Mr. Piccini I've been wanting to touch bases with you regarding I desire to change
the name of Alcohol Loop Rd. to Hadlock Bay Rd. The 911 map Index that we were
given indicated that there is several names using Hadlock which is Hadlock Ave,
with a cross street of Market St., Port Hadlock Heights Rd, and Port Hadlcock
Heights Place. While we realize that Hadlock has been previously used we hope that
the use of Hadlock Bay, Rd would not lead to confusion with the 911 system. There
is no name that we can see that uses the name Hadlock Bay Rd.
We are working very hard at upgrading the Old Alcohol Plant with intensive
remodeling, landscaping and a new name that reflects our changes. The Inn at Port
Hadlock located on Hadlock Bay Rd helps to portray that change. The connotation of
the work "Alcohol" is not the same in 2002 as it was in the early 1900's. Our name
change and image is to replace that association of the work "alcohol".
Hopefully you will reconsider our application to change the name to Hadlock Bay Rd.
