COUNTY OF JEFFERSON
In the Matter of Designating An
Agent of Jefferson County to be the
Official Recipient of all Claims for
Damages made against Jefferson County

Resolution No. 48-01
WHEREAS, current state law, codified at Chapter 4.96 RCW, mandates that claims for
money damages alleging wrongdoing by this County or its agents or employees must be served
on the legislative body of this County by serving the Clerk of the Jefferson County
Commissioners; and
WHEREAS, the enactment of Engrossed House Bil11530 by the Washington State
Legislature and its execution by Governor Locke now requires all municipal corporations,
including counties, to appoint an agent to receive such claims; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that any claim for damages to be served
upon Jefferson County shall be served upon the Clerk of the Jefferson County Commissioners,
located at the basement level of the Jefferson County Court House, 1820 Jefferson Street, Port
Townsend, W A 98368 between 8:00 a.m. and 5 p.m. on any business day; and
IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution, as is required by Engrossed House
Bil11530, shall be recorded with the Jefferson County Auditor upon its adoption by the Board of
County Commissioners and the execution of same by those elected officials,
