SUBJECT: Duckabush Estuary Design Update
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is working with Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement
Group, the Army Corps of Engineers and WSDOT on design to restore the Duckabush estuary in
an effort to optimize this important ecological habitat. Theresa Mitchell from WDFW will
present progress made since our last briefing.
ANALYSIS:
Jefferson County has asked to be kept abreast of planning on this large project which will impact
South County communities and transportation. Commissioners and other County departments
will have an opportunity to engage in questions and discussion about the project.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact to this briefing. The project will be seeking funding from the State (and
potentially Feds) for construction.
RECOMMENDATION:
Participate in briefing. No action is expected.
