WSEC application for the Chapel_ Non-Occupancy Building
WSEC SECTION R402
BUILDING THERMAL ENVELOPE:
R402.1 General (Prescriptive). The building thermal envelope shall meet the requirements of Sections
R402.1.1 through R402.1.6.
Exception: Any conditioned space not intended for occupancy.
Request for interpretation submitted to Jefferson County 11-14-2021

A similar, not intended for occupancy, Recreational Building in Thurston County was interpreted as
follows:
This Recreational Building, which is not intended for occupancy, needs to comply with the general
requirements of WSEC Section R402.1 for Building Thermal Envelopes. It does not need to comply with
the Energy Credits of Table’s R406.2 & R406.3.
9/22/2021 interpretation from Thurston County Plans Examiner, Tim Rubert.
