ANALYSIS: Amendment 57 to the Washington State Constitution prohibits a legislative authority member from increasing his/her salary during his/her term of office and the salary for a member of the County legislative authority must be set in advance of the member taking office and should be set prior to the candidate filing period for that position. RCO 36.40.205 requires an approved pre-election salary adjustment for a County legislative authority office to be ratified and validated by properly adopting it as part of the County budget(s) for the year(s) following such election. County elected officials are not included on a wage matrix and do not receive annual step increases that are received by union represented employees and other exempt employees. Currently Elected Commissioner salaries are based on a percentage of the Superior Court Judge salary as set by the Washington Citizens Commission on Salaries for Elected Officials. Based on a salary study of Jefferson County's seven comparable counties, percentage adjustments are being proposed as shown on the attached resolution. FISCAL IMPACT: An increase to the salaries for the District No. 1, 2 and 3 Commissioner positions will cost approximately$7,548 for each position in the year in which the pay increase will take effect or until the salary for the Superior Court Judge is adjusted. RECOMMENDATION: Approve the attached resolution be implemented as of January 1st following election for each Commissioner position. REVIE ED BY: Mark McCaule nterim County Administr r Date
