RE: 2021 Capital Budget Appropriation — Port Hadlock Sewer
Dear Representative Tharinger:
623 Sheridan Street
Port Townsend, WA 98368

Per our recent discussion, Jefferson County proposes to scale back its original $5.5 million
capital budget appropriation request for the Port Hadlock Sewer project to a more modest $1.85
million for 2021. Approximately $1.6 million of the funds would be earmarked for the future
purchase of a modular membrane bioreactor (MBR) treatment plant. The remaining funds would
be used for ongoing project development, design, and permitting work. We discussed the
potential for additional State funding in 2022 as the Federal stimulus and infrastructure proposals
come into better focus.
We are grateful for your willingness to continue to support the Port Hadlock Sewer project. The
aforementioned funding request combined with the $1.4 million you were instrumental in
securing for the design phase and an extended 0.09 rural infrastructure bill demonstrate
significant support by the State for this important project.
Sincerely,
r
