Veteran's Advisory Board
SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES
October 30, 2019
Members_ present:

Ernie Muir, Brinnon VFW
Member Gary Lane called the meeting to order at 2:55 p.m.
Approval of Minutes: The June 7, 2019 meeting minutes were reviewed. Member Okinczyc moved to approve the
minutes as presented. Member Lane seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Update Contact List: A draft Contact List for 2019 was distributed. Members present updated their contact information.
Review Records Management Training: Clerk Gallaway explained that the Veterans Advisory Board members need to
take Public Records Management training online and she will provide members with the link to that training.
Appeals Board Appointment: Member Okinczyck moved to nominate Member Sayer and Member Muir to the Veterans
Appeals Board. Member Lane seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Status Report on the Veteran's Relief Fund: Clerk Gallaway reported on the expenditures and fund balance of the
Veteran's Relief Fund and provided documentation. A budget appropriation of $25,000 was approved earlier this year.
Review Draft Veterans Advisory Board Policy: Clerk Gallaway reviewed the draft policy with the Board. Topics that
were discussed as elements to potentially include in the new policy were as follows: Income verification for funeral
benefits, bus passes, keeping an updated annual list of prohibited items for food and necessity vouchers, non -appealable
issues, possibly requiring Veterans who are able to work to contact Work Source, raising the limit of the catastrophic
emergency assistance, and terms of VFW post rent reimbursement.
Identify Agenda Items for Next Meeting: Topics the members would like to see on the next Agenda were as follows:
Election of Officers for 2020, Draft Policy review and edits, review of Minutes.
The members set a tentative meeting date of January 15, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. in the Commissioner Chambers.
MEETING ADJOURNED: Member Okinczyck moved to adjourn the meeting at 4:15 p.m. Member Lane
seconded the motion. The motion carried.
