HomeMy WebLinkAbout20200428_PT ETC Meeting MinutesPort Townsend Empowered Teens Coalition Meeting Minutes April 28, 2020 3:30-4:30pm Zoom Meeting Purpose of meeting: Check-in during COVID19 closures, Updates on programs, Community Survey results, Action Plan Facilitator for this meeting: Lindsay Scalf In attendance: LoLo Sherwood, Al Scalf, Julie Russell, Denise Banker, Karen Obermeyer, Tessie Ottaway-Chang, Tasha Newcomb, Time Activity 3:30 Call meeting to order 3:35 Introductions Check-in with members, shared updates on programs during COVID19 Discussed how to support teens during school closures?  Personal note from ETC to honor PTHS graduates?  Line sidewalk from BHM to PTHS with balloons etc…  Denise will check with Chimacum to see what they might do to support graduates  Youth are in mourning, missing so many interactions and expectations and rites of passage, it would be helpful to find some way to recognize their experience, show that the community recognizes this is a big step for graduates and all youth really.  Senior parent organization or ASB or Skillmation group  Tasha will be sending out notes to let students know ESD is still there for them  Consensus on supporting/partnering with groups doing this- Patrick Gaffney Kirsten Bledsoe, Lindsay will reach out to them. 3:45 Community survey results  Reviewed high rate of people answering ‘don’t know’  Identified high rate of parental approval of alcohol use, lack of parental engagement in the issue, misperceptions of alcohol harm  Discussed a community perception that alcohol use is a normal rite of passage for teens  Denise mentioned that this year’s survey is much more representative than past years, as so many more sources took the survey 4:00 Plan to review past year’s programs and develop action plan for 2020-2021  Discussed that while it is difficult to know what next year will look like, it would be good to continue with the CPWI model, as there will be new challenges to teens  Discussed establishing an action plan workgroup  Discussed wellness committee, who might appreciate some support from this coalition  Discussed including students more, can we pay them? For childcare during programs, or by doing a project to develop marketing for the coalition?  Decided to reach out to Sarah Rubenstein to establish school district involvement in action planning, and to discuss how can we become a part of the place based learning projects 4:30 Closed meeting Next meeting: May 26, 2020 3:30-4:30pm
