HomeMy WebLinkAbout20200526__PT ETC Meeting MinutesPort Townsend Empowered Teens Coalition Meeting Minutes May 26, 2020 3:30-4:30pm Zoom Meeting Purpose of meeting: Updates on programs, Action Plan decisions Facilitator for this meeting: Lindsay Scalf Attendees: Denise Banker, Tasha Newcomb, LoLo Sherwood, Al Scalf, Julie Russell Time Activity 3:30 Called meeting to order 3:35 Introductions Check-in, updates on action plan programs Updates Lindsay gave some updates on Coalition activities and action plan: Connect program- Lindsay and Denise will be participating in the Connect program- Juvenile Services sponsored program that involves youth and their parenting adult in an immersive training to learn about community family resources. Lindsay and Denise will adapt the third session of Guiding Good Choices to host a workshop that introduces family connection and family meetings. SAPST training- the Coalition Coordinator is required to complete this one-week training within 18 months of hire, Lindsay completed it last week via Zoom Jumping Mouse Vulnerable Children and Families Roundtable- Denise and Lindsay have been participating in these community resources network meetings and have joined subcommittees to develop a needs assessment and a centralized resource for family needs. Lindsay reached out to staff at Blue Heron and PTHS to let them know the Coalition is available to help with graduation programming. Positive Social Norms- The Coalition paid for two months of the school district calendar to promote positive social norms around family connection and substance use prevention. Poster contest planning-  Discussed the idea of hosting a poster or facemask design contest, to promote healthy lifestyles and community connection during the pandemic and printing the winning design on facemasks for the school district.  Discussed challenges of promoting a contest right now as school is going to be out of session soon.  Discussed whether or not facemasks will be recommended for use once school is back in session- Dr Locke (JC Health Officer) indicated that they will still be needed in the Fall of 2020  Discussed involving art teachers or Human Growth and Development teachers to include it in their lessons. Julie will check with Blue Heron to see if it could be included in the weekly playlist before the end of school.  Concluded that Lindsay will develop a flyer with more information that can be distributed at the end of term day when students drop off materials, and the Coalition can promote posts on Facebook to reach more youth. Depending on participation we can reassess printing facemasks. Tasha discussed the options for continuing counseling over the summer months via telehealth with Zoom. OESD 112 has identified funds to continue limited hours of counseling over the summer, which may be an option for PT depending on staff capacity. Discussed scheduling meetings for the summer, decided to continue hosting the meetings and holding them earlier in the day (1pm) to accommodate schedules. 4:00 Action Plan Reviewed action plan for 2019-2020, went through items to determine which programs to continue.
