Updates
Lindsay gave some updates on Coalition activities and action plan:
Connect program- Lindsay and Denise will be participating in the Connect program- Juvenile
Services sponsored program that involves youth and their parenting adult in an immersive
training to learn about community family resources. Lindsay and Denise will adapt the third
session of Guiding Good Choices to host a workshop that introduces family connection and
family meetings.
SAPST training- the Coalition Coordinator is required to complete this one-week training
within 18 months of hire, Lindsay completed it last week via Zoom
Jumping Mouse Vulnerable Children and Families Roundtable- Denise and Lindsay have
been participating in these community resources network meetings and have joined
subcommittees to develop a needs assessment and a centralized resource for family needs.
Lindsay reached out to staff at Blue Heron and PTHS to let them know the Coalition is
available to help with graduation programming.
Positive Social Norms- The Coalition paid for two months of the school district calendar to
promote positive social norms around family connection and substance use prevention.
Poster contest planning-
Discussed the idea of hosting a poster or facemask design contest, to promote
healthy lifestyles and community connection during the pandemic and printing the
winning design on facemasks for the school district.
Discussed challenges of promoting a contest right now as school is going to be out of
session soon.
Discussed whether or not facemasks will be recommended for use once school is
back in session- Dr Locke (JC Health Officer) indicated that they will still be needed in
the Fall of 2020
Discussed involving art teachers or Human Growth and Development teachers to
include it in their lessons. Julie will check with Blue Heron to see if it could be
included in the weekly playlist before the end of school.
Concluded that Lindsay will develop a flyer with more information that can be
distributed at the end of term day when students drop off materials, and the
Coalition can promote posts on Facebook to reach more youth. Depending on
participation we can reassess printing facemasks.
Tasha discussed the options for continuing counseling over the summer months via
telehealth with Zoom. OESD 112 has identified funds to continue limited hours of
counseling over the summer, which may be an option for PT depending on staff capacity.
Discussed scheduling meetings for the summer, decided to continue hosting the meetings
and holding them earlier in the day (1pm) to accommodate schedules.
