Denise updated the group about the Strategy workgroup to address drug and alcohol regulations, a partnership of regional prevention professionals. They have developed a mission, and strategy communications to offer to the Liquor and Cannabis board, which is necessary as messaging to youth is heavily impacted by the rule changes (carry-out cocktails, drive/walk up windows, and youth on site for alcohol/marijuana production). Denise updated the group about CFRRT- a workgroup of youth and family stakeholders facilitated by Commissioner Dean who are working on messaging for youth going back to school, whose social and emotional wellbeing is impacted by their fear around COVID19 and their feelings of increased responsibility. Discussed the difference in norms around alcohol and marijuana for adults and youth, and the way adolescent development impacts perceptions of family norms which are then challenged by teens. Discussed a presentation to the Board of County Commissioners about prevention in general, as well as specifically about these regulation changes that impact community norms. 1:20 Reviewed new funding sources from DBHR- $20,000 from State Opioid Response in addition to what we already have received for 2020-2021. The group enthusiastically agreed to accept these new funds. Discussed which program to assign new funding, at past meetings we had introduced the idea of developing a youth intern role to improve outreach and communications among teens. This would reinforce the focus of the work on our youth. The group agreed to move forward with creating this job description and adding it to the budget. Al, Lo Lo, Karen and Lindsay will meet in the next few weeks to identify which program to assign the role to, and develop a job description.
