HomeMy WebLinkAbout20210223_PT ETC Meeting MinutesPort Townsend Empowered Teens Coalition Meeting Minutes February 23 3:30-4:30pm Zoom Meeting Purpose of meeting: Program updates, Prevention Voices education Facilitator for this meeting: Lindsay Scalf In attendance: Sector Representative Parents Consuelo Brennan Religious or fraternal organizations Albert Scalf Organizations serving youth Denise Banker Civic/Volunteer groups LoLo Sherwood Schools Holly McIlvane Time Activity 3:30 Called meeting to order approved minutes from January, Denise moved, Al seconded, all in favor approved agenda Denise moved, Consuelo seconded, all in favor 3:35 Updates on coalition programs Guiding Good Choices updates  We have participants registered for both the March and April series, will continue to promote the program to parents of youth aged 9-14 Policy workgroup  Al provided updates on policy workgroup on adding prevention to the comp plan. Language in the Growth Management Act leads us to believe public health and safety needs to be a part of comp plan, particularly prevention language. Prevention tends to get marginalized, so we have developed strategy to include a goal in the document, informed in part by the Rucklehouse Center Roadmap to Washington’s Future (an assessment funded by the WA State legislature).  Right now we are meeting monthly to decide how to promote education and readiness among leadership to build support for this idea of including prevention in the comp plan.  Denise brought up the idea of including language of a ‘land bank’ (transfer of development rights which would mandate that with increased alcohol/marijuana production and distribution spaces, physical space for protective factors and prosocial opportunities for youth would need to increase at the same rate. Social communications strategy update  Adhoc committee (Denise, Lindsay, Greg, Chris) are working on strategy for this social communications plan before 2021-2022 implementation and collaboration with The Production Alliance for content development Student Assistance Professional Updates  We welcomed Holly McIlvaine, the new SAP at Blue Heron Middle School! Updates from coalition members  LoLo shared the news that the Rotary Interact club will be doing hybrid (in person/virtual), LoLo and Consuelo will be facilitating  Consuelo shared that she will be connecting the coalition marketing materials with the Olympic Peninsula HomeConnections 4:05 Presentation- WA State Prevention Voices education on legislative updates  Lindsay shared a powerpoint presentation with education on COVID related allowances on alcohol/marijuana production and distribution. She will send out an infographic and table with details on all the legislation.
