HomeMy WebLinkAbout20210928_PT ETC Meeting Minutes Port Townsend Empowered Teens Coalition Meeting Minutes September 28, 2021 3:30-4:30pm Zoom Meeting Purpose of meeting: Coalition Orientation for 2021-2022 Facilitator for this meeting: Lindsay Scalf In attendance: Sector Representative Youth Parents Businesses Media Law enforcement Religious or fraternal organizations Schools Holly McIlvane Civic/Volunteer groups Organizations serving youth Denise Banker Laura Tucker Tanya Barnett Healthcare Professionals Susan O’Brien Donette Boyett State, local, or tribal governmental agencies Greg Brotherton Alexis Schmierer Other organizations involved in reducing substance use Rachel Ray Time Activity 3:30 Called meeting to order, Denise moved to approve the minutes from June, Tanya seconded, all in favor. Susan moved to approve the agenda, Denise seconded, all in favor. Introductions of all in attendance/program updates Lindsay shared that the Drug Take Back event will take place on October 23rd in PT, Chimacum, and Quilcene. She will share the flyer as soon as it is approved by DBHR. Denise shared that she will be presenting to the joint Superintendent’s meeting on 10/4, with Commissioner Brotherton. Holly shared that school has gotten off to a start, and she will be teaching Prevention Education in 7th grade next month. Susan, Ciela, and Denise provided an update about mental health counseling in the School Based Health Center. There are services being provided currently and different funding sources are looking into expanding hours. Rachel Ray shared that she is the new coordinator for the Port Angeles Healthy Youth Coalition, a new CPWI coalition funded through the Cohort 7 expansion. Greg shared that the new Mill Road site for an encampment for unhoused community members is in progress. Tanya shared that the YMCA is hoping to open the pool soon, and that they are going to be hiring a Jefferson County Child Advocate soon. Laura shared that she is the new coordinator for the Youth Marijuana Prevention and Education Program grant in Jefferson County, and will be working with the CPWI Coalitions to increase prosocial activities for youth and build youth leadership for prevention in the schools. 3:45 Coalition Orientation Lindsay, Denise, and Holly presented a Coalition Orientation slide-deck 4:15 Questions and Capacity Building going forward Discussed how to promote prosocial opportunities for youth, and training for parents.
