SUMMARY
Performs a variety of work involved in the operation of the County solid waste transfer station,
including the collection and receipt of fees obtained from site users, by performing the following
duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.
Performs various duties required in the disposal of solid waste such as directing customers during
ingress and egress from the Transfer Station site and inspecting refuse before it is dumped to prevent
dumping of non-acceptable materials; and removing metals and other identified items from waste stream.
Separates solid waste materials into appropriate areas utilizing appropriate equipment.
Operates various equipment such as a loader, dump truck, tractor trailer, backhoe, knuckle boom
crane, and various hand tools.
Maintains equipment by performing various minor repairs and assists others in performing
carpentry, welding and fabrication as well as minor electrical work.
Performs duties associated with scale house operation such as cash handling and maintaining cash
drawer; readingand recording totals shown on computer to verify against cash on hand; and greeting
customers and utilizing computer program used with the scales.
Maintains and cleans site to ensure neat, orderly appearance; performs any minor repairs which are
deemed necessary.
Assists users in the selection of proper dumping locations.
Responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner;provides information within scope of knowledge and
authority or refer to supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each
essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill,

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two (2) years'
experience in truck driving, equipment operating, solid waste disposal or related
experience, and demonstrated ability to operate trucks and mechanical equipment;
or, equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and
maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports
and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or
employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract,multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole
numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate,ratio, and percent
and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in
written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several
concrete variables in standardized situations.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database
software; internet software; spreadsheet software and word processing software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Washington State Driver's License, Class A Commercial Driver's License.
Possession of, or, ability to obtain and maintain within one (1)year: First Aid/CPR Certification
First Aid/Safety
Forklift Certification
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of Federal, State and local rules and regulations pertaining to Solid Waste.
Ability to quickly grasp new techniques, deal with rapid changes in events, remain calm in stressful
situations, relate to various personality styles in a calm,professional manner.
Ability to successfully complete various required training classes and obtain certificates necessary for
functional skills performance.

Ability to independently assign priority to daily workload.
Ability to handle multiple,unexpected interruptions on an ongoing basis.
Familiarity with hand and power tools,equipment and techniques commonly used in the performance
of related tasks.
Knowledge of methods,practices,procedures,tools, equipment and techniques used in the collection,
processing, and disposal of solid waste and moderate risk waste, and the collection process.
Ability to be independent and self-motivated and to work under pressure;to complete work within
required deadlines,with little direction, while simultaneously completing other tasks.
Ability to maintain a high standard for accuracy, completeness, and efficiency in the preparation of
reports and budgets.
Familiarity with current ideas,practices,and trends relating to solid waste operations and familiarity
with State and County rules, regulations, codes,ordinances and policies.
Ability to follow safety protocol for assigned tasks. Must wear appropriate Personal Protective
Equipment(PPE) during performance of tasks.Ability to read and follow instructions for the safe
operation of tools, Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets(SDS) for products used in
performance of the job.
