In the matter of supporting the Proposal for a Jefferson County Adult Learning Center as a Pilot Project for 1999 through 2001 STATE OF WASHINGTON County of Jefferson } } } } Resolution No. 12-99 WHEREAS, the 1998 Legislature directed the Higher Education Coordinating Board (HECB) to study rural access to adult education in Jefferson County; and, WHEREAS, on September 14, ]998, MGT of America, Inc", consultants, reported findings and recommendations including a pilot project in Jefferson County that could prove how adult education could be expanded in rural areas at minimal cost; and, WHEREAS, on December 7, 1998, the HECB unanimously approved a resolution calling for the 1999 Legislature to support this pilot project. The proposed pilot project is compatible with and implements the recommendations of Govemor Gary Locke's "2020 Commission," supports: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners 1. The authorization for a "Countywide Campus" pilot project in Jefferson County, for the years 1999- 2001, with results to be reported to the 2001 Washington State Legislature: The creation of a "Jefferson County Adult Education Center" co-located at Peninsula College extension and Washington State University (WSU) extension, with staff to perfonn outreach, coordination of providers, classes and facilities, promotion, recruitment, and student services; and 2. 3. A "qistance learning" technology upgrade at WSU and Peninsula College extensions.
