In the Matter of a Prohibition}
Against Weapons in the Jefferson}
County Courthouse }
RESOLUTION NO, 78-99
WHEREAS, Jefferson County has a responsibility to its taxpayers and citizens to assure
the safety and security of County employees and the public who come to the County Courthouse to
transact business; and,
WHEREAS, RCW 9.41.300, provides that weapons may be prohibited in areas in any
building which are used in connection with court proceedings, including courtrooms, jury rooms,
Judge's Chambers, 'offices and areas used to conduct court business, waiting areas and corridors
adjacent to areas used in connection with court proceedings; and,
WHEREAS, due to the historic nature of the Jefferson County Courthouse there is a lack
of sufficient office, courtroom and meeting space for all County activities housed in the building; and,
WHEREAS, all meeting spaces and other common rooms on each of the four floors of
the Courthouse are regularly used fòr court proceedings, and the conduct of the Court,
NOw, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of County Commissioners that
the entire Jefferson County Courthouse be designated as a place where weapons are prohibited.
BE IT FURTHER RESOL Jl'hìJ, that: I) notices be posted advising the public of this
prohibition and, 2) the Chief Civil Deputy be designated as the official to receive weapons for
safekeeping during the time the owner of said weapon visits the building,
