The goal of developing and maintaining a Hazard Mitigation Plan is to reduce the loss of
life and property by increasing awareness of hazards, risks and vulnerabilities focusing on
local resources and communicating priorities to the state and federal officials. Local
governments must develop a hazard mitigation plan as a condition for receiving certain
types of non-emergency disaster assistance through the Hazard Mitigation Assistance
Programs.
J-PREP is an informal multidiscipline organization. Attendees include the joint county/city Emergency
Management team, local government leaders, emergency response agencies, civic and service
organizations, support partners, local business, organized emergency preparedness neighborhoods, and
other concerned citizens. We meet quarterly to discuss collaborative disaster preparedness, response, and
recovery.
