BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
CONSENT AGENDA REQUEST
TO: Board of County Commissioners
FROM: Mark McCauley, Interim County Administrator
DATE: February 28, 2022
SUBJECT: Request Board of County Commissioners approval to apply for a
2022-2023 Community Forestry Assistance Grant
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
During her February 22, 2022 presentation to the Board of Commissioners on Jefferson County's Sustainable Forestry
Program Malloree Weinheimer discussed applying for forestry grants on behalf of the county.
ANALYSIS:
She has identified a Washington State Department of Natural Resources Urban and Community Forestry Program
grant opportunity she would like to apply for as a start. The purpose of the grant is to help local governments to
improve the health of community forests and develop local urban forestry programs. Examples of activities funded
through this program are tree inventories, tree canopy assessments, urban forestry plans, tree planting and educational
projects. The grant program requires a 30% local match.
She is suggesting a grant application for$15,000 which would require a local match of$3,000. The county's match
can be met through the contract extension with Chickadee Forestry that will come before the Board in the near future.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This request has a fiscal impact of$3,000 which would be funded out of the General Fund,Non-departmental.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Board of County Commissioners authorize Malloree Weinheimer to submit a$15,000 grant application on
behalf of Jefferson County and further authorize the Interim County Administrator to sign the grant application.
