HomeMy WebLinkAboutWomen's Day '•• r, 'I.S INCi.c- PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, every January since 2017 women across the world have marched in support of dignity, equal rights and justice for all; and, WHEREAS, women are integral as leaders, artists, mothers, caregivers, elders, employees, volunteers, activists and in countless other roles that make significant contributions to the fabric, stability and well-being of our community; and, WHEREAS, the past year has demonstrated how far this country is from realizing its dream of equality as evidenced by inequitable health and economic outcomes for women and minorities during the Covid-19 pandemic; and, WHEREAS, research has shown that countries led by women consistently produce better health outcomes, including fewer deaths due to Covid-19; and, WHEREAS, Jefferson County strives for inclusiveness and non-discrimination; and, WHEREAS, the third week of January also honors Dr. Martin Luther King as a champion of human rights and equality for all, consistent with the values of the Women's March; and NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners, do hereby proclaim March 8, 2022 as: Women's Day In Jefferson County, and encourage all visitors and residents of the Olympic Peninsula to join in celebrating the spirit of and dedication to the women in our community.
