ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Manages and maintains Windows and Linux servers. Designs, builds, manages, maintains, and monitors the local area and wide area networks. Provides database administration services. Provides network services and support in the areas of infrastructure, email, security, and virtual servers. Administers, manages, and maintains wireless network. Maintains virtualized network and computing environment using VMWare. Collects and analyzes network and system data in order to maximize thru-put, evaluate equipment capacity, and overall system effectiveness. Researches and evaluates new technologies. Manages and maintains Windows Active Directory domain sites and services. Creates, maintains, and troubleshoots Group Policies and Preferences on Windows Server. Provides network security through firewall administration, patch management, access permissions and user education. L - Jefferson County Job Description: Central Services-Network Administrator Page 2 of 5 Installs, configures, and maintains computer hardware, software, and network communications equipment including, but not limited to: computers, laptops, tablets, servers, network equipment, system software, and application software. Coordinates with department directors to develop, implement, and test data communications and telecommunications "business continuity" plans for the County. Acquires, configures, installs, tests, and maintains all network components including, but not limited to file servers, firewalls, access points, routers, bridges, switches, cabling, etc. Develops and implements policies and procedures related to network security and best practices for the department. Makes technical recommendations to management as a result of working directly with department managers/directors, staff, and vendors to determine what network services are needed and how they can best be delivered. Ensures members of the IT department have familiarity with all aspects of the network and operations to provide backup support when required. Other duties may be assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) from a four-year college or university in computer science or related field of study and five (5) years related experience, with at least two (2) in telecommunications; or nine (9) years of computer and telecommunication experience that includes a thorough knowledge of networks, servers, communication devices, system/network security systems; or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with other virtual environments desired, not required. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as ordinances, statutes, software documentation, and various computer programming languages. Ability to analyze information and write reports for consumption by both technical and non-technical persons. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry. Ability to utilize variables in various programming languages to perform calculations. REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions in an abstract environment. Ability to perform complex, multi-step processing of data to provide final data products to customers. TECHNICAL SKILLS To perform this job successfully an individual should have knowledge of operating systems; database technologies; virtualization Technologies; iSCSI SAN equipment; network and routing concepts including OSI layers, VLANs, and subnets; DNS; DHCP; document management systems (Laserfiche); and some programming knowledge including scripting languages, C#, and SQL. OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to conceptualize how technical systems can support or enhance the operations of County departments. Ability to convey complex technical data in support of management decision making. Ability to work effectively in committees and present information verbally. Experience with major virtualization, networking, and operating systems. Experience with SQL-based databases. Knowledge of computer hardware, firmware, and operating software systems. Proven computer troubleshootingexperience.p Proven technical skill in the use of at least one modern programming language. Knowledge of software design techniques for file structures, access methods, database structures, etc. Knowledge of networking and communication hardware, firmware, and operating software systems. Understanding of modern security practices including "least privilege" and "role-based access control". CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid Washington State Driver's License with a driving record free of serious or frequent violations and ability to maintain a valid license. Must pass a thorough background investigation which includes being fingerprinted.
