BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
REGULAR AGENDA REQUEST
TO: Board of County Commissioners
FROM: Mark McCauley, Interim County Administrator
DATE: March 28, 2022
SUBJECT: Briefing: re: Analysis of Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill 5693: that portion
of which that relates to funding for counties as a result of State v. Blake
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
The recently passed supplemental appropriations bill passed by the Washington State legislature and signed
into law by Governor Inslee contains a number of provisions that benefit counties.
Our Chief Civil Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, Philip Hunsucker, has analyzed the bill and believes the
Board and the public will benefit from a briefing on the provisions of the bill.
Among other things, the bill substantially increases funding to reimburse counties for Blake related
expenses.
ANALYSIS:
The briefing will explain the substantive changes made by the bill.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Exact fiscal impact is not known, however Jefferson County should receive more revenue under this bill
than it could have expected previously.
RECOMMENDATION:
Listen to Mr. Hunsucker's briefing and ask clarifying questions if you have any.
