HomeMy WebLinkAbout040422cbs02 Regular Agenda JEFFERSON COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST TO: Board of County Commissioners FROM: Adiel McKnight, Executive Assistant DATE: April 4,2022 SUBJECT: PROCLAMATION re: Proclaiming the Month of April as National County Government Month STATEMENT OF ISSUE: April is National County Government Month(NCGM). Held each April, is an annual celebration of county government. Since 1991, the National Association of Counties (NACo)has encouraged counties to actively promote the services and programs they offer. NCGM is an excellent opportunity for your county to highlight effective county programs and raise public awareness and understanding about the various services provided to the community. The coronavirus pandemic highlights the importance of county government. Counties are on the front lines protecting our communities from coronavirus and other illnesses that have the potential to become a pandemic. Counties support over 900 hospitals and operate over 1 900public health departments, which are theground troops in the P p P P fight against the coronavirus outbreak. Local health departments are working to protect public health by communicating with transportation officials, educating health care providers and communicating to the public best practices to reduce the spread of infectious diseases. FISCAL IMPACT There is no fiscal impact to Jefferson County. RECOMMENDATION: Approve Proclamation re: Proclaiming the Month of April as National County Government Month REVIEWED BY: ar McCa , Interim County Admit-list for va WHEREAS, Washington's 39 counties serving more than 7 million residents provide essential services to create healthy, safe and vibrant communities; and WHEREAS, counties provide health services, administer justice, keep communities safe, foster economic opportunities and much more; and WHEREAS, Jefferson County and all counties take pride in our responsibility to protect and enhance the health, welfare and safety of our residents in efficient and cost-effective ways; and WHEREAS, through the Washington State Association of Counties and the National Association of Counties across the nation, counties will be demonstrating how counties deliver services to our residents nationwide; and WHEREAS, each year since 1991 the Washington State Association of Counties and the National Association of Counties has encouraged counties across the country to elevate awareness of county responsibilities, programs and services; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, the Jefferson County Commissioners do hereby proclaim April 2022 as: NATIONAL COUNTY GOVERNMENT MONT I in Jefferson County, and encourage all County officials, employees, schools and residents to recognize the importance of county government.
