SUBJECT: PROCLAMATION re: Proclaiming the week of April 16-24, 2022 as National
Park Week
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
National Park Week is a time to explore amazing places, discover stories of history and culture. Parks
across the country will host a variety of special programs, events, and digital experiences. National
Park Week is a wonderful time to celebrate the work done by National Park Foundation (NPF) and
their partners to ensure parks thrive and spark wonder for generations to come. The National Park
Service will have five entrance fee-free days in 2022. The free admission days are designed to
encourage discovery and visitation of the country's variety of national parks. With at least one in every
state, national parks are accessible places to visit to refresh body, mind and spirit.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact to Jefferson County.

PROCLAMATION
National Park Week
WHEREAS,National Park Week is a time to explore amazing places and discover stories of history
and culture. Parks across the country will host a variety of special programs, events, and digital experiences;
and
WHEREAS, with over 400 national parks across the country,National Park Week is a great time to
discover a new park, learn more about parks, and enjoy their natural beauty; and
WHEREAS,National Park Week is a wonderful time to celebrate the work done by National Park
Foundation(NPF) and our partners to ensure parks thrive and spark wonder for generations to come; and
WHEREAS,the National Park Foundation is committed to connecting people of all identities to the
adventures, lessons, and experiences that national parks offer; and
WHEREAS,the NPF employs through service corps crews which do a considerable amount of work.
In 2021, service corps crews built, restored, and maintained over 800 miles of trails and planted more than
60,000 trees and other plant species. Since 2018,the NPF has supported more than 130 service corps crews;
and
WHEREAS,national parks belong to all of us, and it's important that we all feel welcome and safe
when we visit them.National Park Foundation's Park Ventures program addresses obstacles that hinder
communities from having full and enduring connections to parks;
NOW THEREFORE, in recognition of our communities' deeply held care for and collective
responsibility to preserve and protect our environment, the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners
hereby proclaims April 16-24, 2022 as
National Park Week
and encourage all residents to enjoy their national parks. Parks across the country will host a variety of special
programs, events, and digital experiences. Entrance fees are waived on April 16, 2022 to kick off National
Park Week.
