Dear Darcy,
Thank you so much for reaching out, and for your careful attention to detail.
The good news is the numbers are accurate. Let me explain why. The case rate formula is
based on the date the positive individual is tested, not the date the case is reported. We buildthe formula this way to account for delays in reporting, which we had in the last 2 weeks.
Because case numbers are going down, some of the cases that were caught in the state backlogwere just now reported us weeks late, so they got added to our totals, but not to the 2 week
case rate (since they were tested more than 2 weeks ago). They do mean the old case rateswere even a little higher than reported, but don’t change today’s rate.
So the good news is we are truly in the low risk zone. We do still recommend masking for
those at high risk of severe disease until we get a little lower but we are moving in the rightdirection. Unfortunately COVID is not over as our friends in the UK are experiencing, and we
are likely to see that case rate rise again in the future. But for now, it is reasonable for mostpeople to unmask in indoor non-healthcare settings.
Hope that helps,
Allison Berry, MD MPH (she/her/hers)

Subject: Incorrect Covid numbers making it look like we're at green instead of yellow
ALERT: BE CAUTIOUS This email originated outside the organization. Do not open

I commented on this Facebook post, but I'm afraid everyone's gone home for the
weekend and won't see it.
Based on the FB posts from Mar3-16, we have had 40 cases in the last 2 weeks, so we
should be at a case rate of 120ish per 100,000, not the 71 reported.
It's making it show up as Green (unmask) instead of Orange (masking recommended)!
It's also making it look like a test positivity rate of only 1.2% because it's only showing 3
positive tests from this week! And only 11 from the previous week.
I know maybe I'm missing something here, but it seems like it's got to be a mistake. If
so, please correct it ASAP before more people unmask.
Thanks for all your hard work,
Darcy Reeder
