At case rates above 100 cases/100K, we do recommend masking in all indoor spaces, including schools. Moving to mandating masking is a bit more complex. In order to justify mandating masking at acommunity level, we would need to demonstrate that we are seeing a rise in severe disease and hospitalizationscommunity-wide. Right now, we're not seeing that and it's not entirely clear that we will with this wave, given howmany people have achieved good protection from severe disease, either through getting vaccinated and boosted orrecently acquiring COVID-19. We certainly will be following that data closely and if we saw that kind of a trend, areturn to mandatory indoor masking is possible. The one other trigger that could lead to a return in mandated in masking in schools would be if we saw widespreadtransmission in schools. This could lead to mandatory masking for a period of time in an individual classroom, gradelevel, school or in schools more generally, depending on the kind of transmission we were seeing. Thankfully,we have not seen that here but we are regularly monitoring for it and would adjust our mask guidance or evenrequirements accordingly if we did. Thanks for reaching out and for your work. Since it is strongly recommended to mask indoors now (cases >200 per 100,000), it makes senseto me that the schools should start masking again.
