Supports County staff and departments by leveraging new technology to meet business needs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Database Administration and Support Performs system and database administration roles for assigned major County software application systems, including maintenance, performance monitoring, database/application security, application functionality. Plans, coordinates, maintains and provides security and administration of database applications, including implementation and customization, data extraction and report creation. Provides project management, implementation, application requirements and functionality, business process analysis, integration, customization, upgrades, training, maintenance and troubleshooting of assigned major County software applications and associated database systems, including guidance of vendor support organizations as needed in problem resolution or feature enhancement. Manages the technical implementation of assigned new systems. Designs, builds, and maintains custom relational databases and interprets and analyzes enterprise relational databases to meet operational and business needs of both front-end and back -end users. Develops strategies for database architecture, implementation, maintenance, backup, archive, recovery and security. Regularly checks and repairs database integrity. Works with user groups and program managers to create reports and forms to effectively use the databases, respond to user -reported errors, facilitate modifications and improvements and provide metrics for database program evaluation. Researches and maintains knowledge and documentation of current application, scripting and database technologies to ensure the County's awareness of current technical tools. Participates in planning for future acquisitions and upgrades to equipment and software. Fosters, creates, develops and maintains successful relationships and teams with departmental database users. Creates and maintains application interfaces, workflow capabilities, reports, ad hoc queries, complex reports, and data manipulation and guidance of vendor work. Creates reports and forms via Crystal Reports and/or SSRS for system users in support of utilizing and understanding the data and provide metrics for program evaluation. Provides technical support as needed to support completion of projects and/or ensure production systems are functioning properly. Uses software and scripting, typically including SQL, to generate metrics and reports and synthesize them into actionable recommendations. May assist in developing, testing and implementation of software programs and hardware solutions for use in the production environment. Provides limited application software support for all software programs supported by Information Services; support includes technical administration of application systems security functions, installation of software releases from vendors, limited troubleshooting of vendor software problems, and coordination with County departments and vendors for technical matters as it pertains to databases. Performs database management and maintenance procedures. Provides training to customers in the use of computer hardware and software systems. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities but may act as lead in area of expertise and provide training to other staff. Technical or postgraduate education that is directly related may be substituted for up to two (2) years of experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SHILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as ordinances, statutes, software documentation, and various computer programming languages. Ability to analyze information and write reports for consumptiori by both technical and non -technical persons. Ability to utilize variables in various programming languages to perform calculations. COMPUTER SHILLS To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Active Directory, Windows & Linux operating systems and database software i.e.; SQL or Access. OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Comprehensive knowledge of database administration, relational database theory and design methods for all current versions of Microsoft SQL Server.' Some knowledge of MySQL and MariaDB. Comprehensive knowledge of data manipulation language (DML), data defmition language (DDL) and data control language (DCL) in support of extracting and transforming (ETL) data for business intelligence applications, reporting, analysis and data transfer between systems. Knowledge of multi -dimensional data structures such as cubes, dimensions and measures. Comprehensive knowledge of SQL Server Database Replication Services, Integration'Services, Analysis Services and Business Intelligence Development Studio. Knowledge of Visual Studio especially in support of SSRS and SSIS. Ability to create, interpret and manage databases, indexes, stored procedures and user -defined functions. Ability to plan and allocate database storage and capacity, backup and recovery, user access and security. Comprehensive knowledge of business intelligence and reporting tools, their use and programming syntax including Crystal Reports, structured query language, SQL Reporting Services, Access, Excel. Knowledge of vendor proprietary reporting tools as assigned. Ability to comprehend and resolve the technical issues experienced by County staff using software application programs. Ability to accurately convey technical information to non -technical audiences both orally and in writing. Aptitude for self -direction and initiative to manage projects and complete tasks with minimal supervision. Capture and document requirements and specifications concisely as well as provide analysis. Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently often with frequent interruptions. Ability to perform complex, multi -step processing of data to provide final data products to customers. Knowledge of and experience with major PC and network operating systems; PC databases and software; and networking and communication hardware, firmware, and operating software systems. Proven technical skill in the use of at least one programming language for current generation office equipment. Knowledge of software design and the use of scripting, compiled, and interpreted languages. Knowledge of telephone and telecommunications hardware, firmware, and operating software systems. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid Washington State Driver's License with a driving record free of serious or frequent violations. Must pass a thorough background investigation which includes being fingerprinted.
