The Commissioners are asked to approve a proclamation and ask all residents of this community to join us in honoring our HEALTHCARE HEROES, the registered nurses who care for the public. We welcome the opportunity to show our appreciation not just during this week, but at every opportunity throughout the year. FISCAL IMPACT There is no fiscal impact to Jefferson County. WHEREAS, nearly 3.8 million registered nurses in the United States comprise our nation's largest health care profession; and, WHEREAS, the registered nursing profession is a bedrock supporting health in Jefferson County through Jefferson Healthcare, local medical providers, long term/short term care facilities and the Jefferson County Public Health Department; and, WHEREAS, Jefferson County Public Health nurses are the first line of disease prevention and epidemiology, contact tracing, disease tracking, while working with the local medical providers to assure testing and treatments for citizens with communicable diseases; and, WHEREAS, throughout history, the nursing profession has played major roles in stepping into times of crisis and providing care and innovation that has saved lives and reduced suffering; and, WHEREAS,just as in previous disease outbreaks, nurses across the globe have been stepping up to combat the deadly spread of COVID-19, a virulent global outbreak that has produced staggering numbers of cases and deaths; and, WHEREAS, from providing direct care to affected hospitalized patients to leading full scale public health operations, nurses are front and center working around the clock to protect the health and well-being of patients and the public at large; and, WHEREAS, every year May 6th is celebrated as National Nurses Day; and, WHEREAS, May 12, 2022 marks the 202nd birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale the founder of modern nursing. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED THAT, the Jefferson County Commissioners do hereby proclaim May 6-12, 2022 as: -,N NN, .
