It was originally founded in 1961. Cape George is requesting that Jefferson County designate our community a no shooting area per county code 8.50. Discharge of a firearm and/or hunting within the boundaries of our community is already listed as a violation of the Cape George Colony Club covenants,a rule that has been in place since the beginning of the community. Currently, the first offense is subject to a$500 fine, with subsequent offenses subject to a$1,000 fine. Our request for county designation was spurred by a recent incident in which at least 6 bullets were fired outside a home in our neighborhood in the early morning hours of October 8,2021, which was very upsetting to residents in that area. Jefferson County sheriff's deputies responded to a phone call from a nearby resident, but they were unable to take any further action because it is not illegal to discharge a firearm within this unincorporated part of the county. We understand that several residential communities in unincorporated Jefferson County(i.e., Kala Point, Port Ludlow, Ocean Grove)have been declared no-shooting areas under Jefferson County Code Title 8.50.030. We are requesting that the County also designate Cape George Colony Club as a no-shooting. J 7 7 We submit that Cape George Colony Club, now with a suburban density of more than 540 homes, should be declared a no-shooting area within Jefferson County. There is a reasonable likelihood that humans, domestic animals, or property may be jeopardized by the discharge of a firearm. While HOA fines are intended to dissuade firearm discharge, egregious abuses should also be subject to legal adjudication and the possi61 8 h ili6P,,D NnIt 7021 ii ': within the justice system. We believe that designating our community a no-shooting area under county ordinance is an appropriate response to preserve and protect our safety. Included with this package are two petitions containing signatures from registered voters in the two precincts in which our neighborhood lies: Precinct 104(Colony and Huckleberry sections)and Precinct 105 (Village and Highlands sections). Also included is a map showing the geographic boundaries of our neighborhood. We very much appreciate your consideration and will be happy to supply any additional requested information.
