In the Matter of Encouraging
and Supporting Employee Participation
in Community Blood Drives

RESOLUTION NO. 32-98
WHEREAS, there is a continuing concern regarding blood supply shortages, both nationally
and regionally; and
WHEREAS, this shortage adversely affects the ability of those wishing to undertake elective
surgery and is becoming threatening to those undergoing non-elective and emergency surgeries;
and,
WHEREAS, employees and citizens of Jefferson County are equally subject to a blood
supply shortage; and,
WHEREAS, community blood drives are scheduled quarterly in Jefferson County.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners does hereby recognize
the critical nature of the area's blood supply; and does encourage all citizens and employees of
Jefferson County, who are willing and able, to give the "Gift of Life" by participating in the
community blood drives; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Jefferson County employees may participate in the
community blood drives, with Department Head concurrence, as part of their normal work day
without loss of time,
