In the Matter of Adopting an Updated
Management and Professional Position
Compensation Matrix
RESOLUTION NO 104-98
WHEREAS, management and professional employees of Jefferson County are exempt
from the Fair Labor Standards Act and are not represented by a recognized bargaining unit; and
WHEREAS, Jefferson County adopted a uniform compensation system for these
employees in effective January of 1996; and,
WHEREAS, this system has recently undergone a professional review for internal and
external position and market alignment; and,
WHEREAS, the results of this study are as provided in the Management and Professional
Employee Position Compensation Matrix, Exhibit A.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of County Commissioners that
the Management and Professional Employee Position Compensation Matrix, Exhibit A; Implementation
Procedures, Exhibit B; and Placement Schedule, Exhibit C, are hereby adopted, effective January 1,
1999. This compensation system shall be applied to all management and professionally exempt
positions in Jefferson County.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the initial placement of individual employees on this
system shall be in accordance with the Implementation Procedures, Exhibit B, and Employee Placement
Schedule, Exhibit C.

Management and Professional Position
Compensation Matrix
Implementation Procedures
The following provisions implement placement and movement within the compensation
system developed for non -represented management and professional employees
effective January 1, 1999:
1. Employees will be placed on the grade and step as provided on the employee
placement schedule, Exhibit C subject to provisions 2 and 3 below, for the Year
1999. Employees will be eligible for annual step advancement beginning January
1, 2000.
2. Employees with a position anniversary date of January 1, 1999 will receive the
full position adjustment as provided in Exhibit C (except as may be modified by
provision 3 below). Employees whose position anniversary date is other than
January 1, 1999 will receive a 2% salary adjustment on January 1, 1999 and
then receive the remainder of the salary adjustment provided by Exhibit C on
their position anniversary date, except as provided for in Number 3 below.
3. A7% maximum increase is applied to initial realignment of positions under these
implementation procedures. Position realignment resulting in a greater than 7%
increase are capped at 7%. Upon the position anniversary date of the
incumbent, the incumbent will moved to the next available step which will
provide a minimum of a 1% increase in their wage rate.
