HomeMy WebLinkAbout050922ca05 Department of Public Works O Consent Agenda Page 1 of 1 Jefferson County Board of Commissioners Agenda Request To: Board of Commissioners Mark McCauley, County Administrator From: Monte Reinders, Public Works Director/County Engineer/ . Agenda Date: May 1 2022 Subject: Execution of Contract with Interwest Construction Inc. for the Jefferson County Universal Movement Playground (JUMP!) Statement of Issue: Execution of the JUMP! Project Contract with Interwest Construction Inc. Analysis/Strategic Goals/Pro's a Cons: The JUMP! bid opening on March 14, 2022 resulted in a sole bid from Interwest Construction (ICI) that exceeded the Engineer's estimate by over 50 percent. In order to proceed with construction, the project's scope has been reduced so as to not exceed the project's funding limits while still meeting the original design objectives and RCO grant deliverables. By eliminating items from the project, including a large piece of play equipment in the south lobe of the project, and working with ICI to adjust their bid, it is now possible to construct the project with the funding available. The attached contract with ICI reflects the updated scope of work and pricing. The scope changes have been designed such that it will be possible to construct the removed portion of the playground if the JUMP! organization is able to raise additional funds. This would be accomplished under a different project and contract. Fiscal Impact/Cost Benefit Analysis: The contract amount for the JUMP! Project is $756,385.50. Construction is funded through a combination of a $500,000 RCO Grant, a Jefferson County Capital Improvement Fund contribution of $550,000, and other grants, pledges and cash donations. Recommendation: Public Works recommends that the Board execute all three (3) originals of the Contract with Interwest Construction, Inc, and return two (2) originals to Public Works for further processing.
