ESSSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.' Performs all clinical duties under supervision and direction of Nurse Practitioners or Health Officer. • Supports Nurse Practitioners in the clinics, maintaining good communication. Services may include performing medical assisting duties per written protocols such as height, weight, hemoglobin, venipuncture (if certified), urine testing, blood pressure, oxygen saturation levels, eye exams, cleaning and sterilizing equipment by using the autoclave and setting up exam rooms for clients. • Lab Support: collecting specimens and venipuncture.(if certified) from clients and placing in correct tubes, writing up lab forms, centrifuging specimens, packaging and arranging for courier to'pick up labs, tracking labs and results. Ordering and stocking lab and exam room supplies. • May call clients regarding- normal lab results, follow up appointments, prescription requests or refills and referrals when requested by Nurse Practitioner. • Schedules appointments including assigning times per provider, identifying type of appointment required, and finding appropriate time slot. • Searches for immunization records for clients and'or providers as necessary. • Maintains records, records data from other providers and or medical staff, performs provider requests for recall visits and reminders, referrals or requisitions. Jefferson County Job Description: Clinic Support/Medical Records Clerk Page 2 of 4 • Can perform data entry for client check -in and check-out database with thorough updated information with each visit. `Collects payments due. • Attends meeting pertinent to both,clinical job function and medical records job function and work flow including staff meetings, advisory board meetings and team meetings. • Is responsible for setting up SBHC and FP Advisory Board meetings, assures annual review of Family Planning brochures and other materials as required for federal Title X grant funding, and takes minutes of Advisory Board meetings. • Assures that all post clinic functions are completed per established protocols and guidelines such as wiping down surfaces of labs, exam.rooms and equipment per CLIA standards to maintain clean clinic and lab work spaces. • Can obtain current lab prices from outside lab for current lab services and may assist Deputy Director to maintain fee schedule. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and -or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 1 (one) year experience in a medical clinic. Must be a registered or certified Medical Assistant or,obtain registration or certification within one year of hire date. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze and utilize standing orders, understand and use medical terminology, clinic policies and interpret clinical health education pamphlets to clients. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Washington State driver's license Medical Assistant — Certified (preferred) or Registered Venipuncture certification (preferred) Proof of MMR and Hepatitis B Immunity (Vaccines may be provided by the employer) Jefferson County Job Description: Clinic Support/Medical Records Clerk Page 4 of 4 OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of Blood Borne Pathogen (BBP). Annual BBP•training provided by employer. Knowledge of computers and skill in the use of spreadsheet, database, word processing, and other software applications used in the operation of the department. Knowledge of medical terminology, legal requirements for medical records, medical supplies required for different procedures and chart requirements and electronic medical records software. Understands the need for maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information and has knowledge of the regulations regarding the release of medical records. Maintains client's right to privacy within clinic setting by, assuring clinic spaces are private and confidential. Understand the clinic and client flow through efficient use of time of self and provider. Must have good communication skills and ability to work as, an essential part of a team through collaboration and effective communication skills. Understands that all medical aspects of clinic operations are under the direction of the licensed ARNP providers and the Health Officer who serves as the JCPH Medical Director.
