Her kindergarten teacher had also been encouraging the class to learn their home addresses. As I was quizzing her, it came to my recollection that our address here has changed several times in the past decade; either by the county or by the U.S.P.S. It also occurred to me that oUr address, as it currently exists, has caused some confusion among the various delivery systems( UPS, Federal Express, and USPS). I then dialed the business office of the Forks Town Hall, and spoke with the dispatcher for the local 911 Emergency Activation System. I informed him that my current "911" address was 107 South Bogachiel Road, and asked to what location he would dispatch. After waiting in silence for a few moments, he said, "That number doesn't exist... Did you say 107 South Bogachiel Way?" It took several more minutes before the officer could put it together that we were in Jefferson county. He only knew of it because he was a lifelong resident, and familiar with the upper Bogachiel. My worst fears had been confirmed. What if my five-year-old daughter were required to activate the 911 system, and the dispatcher told her, "Little girl, that address doesn't exist ...... " The Forks dispatcher told me I should train her to say, "Milepost 184, Highway 101, south of Forks, on the upper Bogachiel, 107 South Bogachiel Road." How practical is that? I urge you to take immediate action in changing the name of our road to something easily recognizable and something that is already locally known. Dowans Creek Road would be suitable. Finally, considering that our address has been changed from Rural Route to Star Route to HC80 to South Bogachiel Road for the convenience of those not living on this road, the process and expense for this requested change should be borne the same people responsible for previous changes, if. only for the simplification and facilitation of emergency response procedures.
