SUBJECT: Board of County Commissioners Follow-on Workshop: Courthouse Security
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
During the May 23, 2022 Board of County Commissioners meeting staff requested the Board to approve the
issuance of a Request for Proposals to identify and contract for private security screening services for 2023
through 2025 and potentially for 2026 and 2027. Commissioner Dean suggested that the Board defer a decision
on the request pending a workshop with Courthouse personnel regarding Courthouse security. The Board held a
workshop on Courthouse security on June 6, 2022. There was general agreement that the current security
screening system/process in the Courthouse was working as well as it can given the configuration of the
Courthouse.
This workshop will help confirm that understanding. It will also introduce the idea that if the County issues the
Courthouse Security Request for Proposals (RFP)the County Sheriff's Office will be invited to submit a
proposal. Finally, staff will again request Board approval to issue the RFP.
ANALYSIS:
Staff requests a follow-on workshop with the Board and elected officials and department directors housed in the
Courthouse to conclude the discussion on Courthouse security.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Board conduct a follow-on workshop on Courthouse security and authorize the issuance of an RFP and
invite the Jefferson County Sheriff to submit a proposal.
