On May 16 we held a workshop to look at impacts to our Junior Taxing Districts of the Beaver Valley Sorts Timber Sale as well as management options including reconveyance. On June 27 we held a further discussion to share with each other what we had learned over the last month. One presentation/option we want to take a more in depth look at is the impact of adjusting forest harvest rotation length on carbon storage in forests. We invited Seth Zuckerman to join us today after seeing an earlier, more general presentation by him on this topic at a Timber 101 training organized by the Washington Association of Counties in June. ANALYSIS: NNRG leads forestry projects focused on ecological forestry which shows landowners options other than clearcutting for managing their forests. Specifically, over the past couple of months, the BOCC had discussed how our forests in Jefferson County might retain as much carbon sequestration potential while providing for the funding needs of our Junior Taxing Districts such as fire departments, schools and libraries. FISCAL IMPACT: NA RECOMMENDATION: Listen, ask questions, learn. REVIEWED BY: ..."%#.e. 4........- .C..e.7.? (,G'` Z Mark McCau County Administrator Date
