Jefferson County and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office(the Employer)and Teamsters Local Union 589(the Union)are parties to a labor agreement providing wages hours and conditions for that group of employees described as Deputy Sheriff as employed by the Employer in the Sheriff's Office. B. The Parties have entered into an agreement covering the period beginning in January 2022 and until December 31 2024. C. Upon review of that signed agreement the Parties have concluded there is an omission from the signed document which requires this Technical Amendment(22-01)to effectuate the intent of the Parties. NOW THEREFORE IT IS AGREED: I. Effective upon signing of this Technical Amendment 22-01 and retroactive to January 2022 Section A.4 of the signed Agreement shall be void and shall be replaced with the following: A.4 Effective January I,2015,a contribution of$94.00 per month will be made to the employee's choice of one of the Deferred Compensation Plans currently offered by the County. The County, in administering the contract, discovered an omission in the drafting of the signature document. The Contract should have included an increase of$20.00 in the County contribution matching an employee's contribution to a deferred compensation program. In the prior agreement the County would match $58.00 to an employee $58.00 contribution to a deferred compensation plan, for a total of$116.00 per month. The new County contribution would total $78.00 and would match an employee contribution of$78.00 to a total of$156.00 per month. Employee retention is a critical factor for County law enforcement staff. Other larger agencies in both Counties and Cities are offering hiring incentives and bonuses to attract new employees and retain current staff. Offering an increase to an employee match to deferred compensation is an effective measure to assist us in retaining current employees. FISCAL IMPACT: Currently, there are nine employees in the Sheriff Deputy bargaining unit contributing to deferred compensation. Increasing the County contribution match by $20 per employee contributing to deferred compensation would cost a total of$180.00 more per month, $2,160 annually. RECOMMENDATION: Approve the Technical Amendment (2022-01) adding Section A.4.2 to the Agreement between Jefferson County and Teamsters Local No. 589, increasing the County contribution by$20.00 to $78.00 and the employee contribution by $20 to $78.00 for a total $156.00.
