SUNDAY PROGRESSIVE TRACKS with Mike “ProgTracks” Pollack Sunday 5-6am AND Monday 9-10pm Mike has been playing “All the music your spouse can’t stand” for over 9 years now. You’ll hear what’s new in the world of Progressive Rock, with a touch of Fusion, Psych/Space, Avant, and Desert/Doom thrown into his aural stew. The last interview I did with these guys turned out to be the most popular ProgTracks Show of all time...and I don't think I'm overselling when I say that this one's even better. NOTE: Cheer-Accident will perform again at Seaprog 2022 on August 5. July 25 / 26 Show #477 – “Surprise!" – Mike will either be interviewing the wonderful Bent Knee as part of the 2022 Seaprog Festival series or playing a compendium of new progressive rock. These interview things can be quite elusive, dontcha know... UNLACED STRINGS with Robin Ditzler Sunday 10am-12noon Robin presents her own mix of classical music favorites and fun facts. OUR TOWN with host Maryanne McNellis Alternating Tuesdays and repeats the following Sunday, both 12:30-1pm July 17 Maryanne interviews Betsy Davis, Executive Director of the Northwest Wooden Boat School. Falling in love with a wooden boat can be a life-changer as Betsy will tell you. After a career in high-tech and retailing her heart was captured by a 1914 wooden boat. Needless to say, it needed some TLC before cruising. Some people would just hire a team to restore the boat. But Betsy wanted to know how to do it herself, so she enrolled in a wooden boat school. Many stories later, she ended up as Executive Director of the Seattle Center for Wooden Boats. In 2014 she was hired as Executive Director of our local Northwest School of Wooden Boats. The school has flourished under her direction. And both Betsy and her boat, The Glorybe, have flourished here. July 25 In a small office tucked away in the farthest corner of the top floor of Port Townsend’s historic Baker Block Building, the CEO of a new nonprofit named Methane Action is racing the clock to stem the rapid rise of a greenhouse gas 86 times more damaging than carbon dioxide. In this program, host Steve Evans talks with that CEO, Daphne Wysham. EVERYBODY CAN with host Missy Nielsen Alternating Tuesdays and reprise the following Thursday 12:10-12:30 Everybody Can explores the challenges, hopes, and heartwarming moments that inform the volunteers and non-profit organizations in Jefferson and Clallam County. From truffles to cordyceps, and everything in between! OUR TOWN with host Maryanne McNellis Alternating Tuesdays and repeats the following Sunday, both 12:30-1pm July 26 / 31 Maryanne interviews Bob Wheeler, Project Director for the Port Hadlock Sewer System. The sewer system has been talked about for years — but it’s finally happening. Land has been purchased for the wastewater treatment plant and bidding on contracts will begin this fall. Growth has been strangled without a sewer. The region’s current “rural” designation mandates one house per 5 acres. Businesses can’t grow due to septic restrictions. When there’s a sewer system, Port Hadlock can become an urban growth region. That changes everything. Apartment buildings and other multi-family housing projects are suddenly viable. Businesses such as QFC can finally expand the way they would like. Bob’s enthusiasm for the project is boundless. We may be nearing at least a partial solution to our housing crisis. RHYTHM CONNECTION with host Robert Ambrose Tuesday 1-3pm Rhythm Connection transports listeners to cultures around the world, through incredibly diverse music from the African diaspora. Since its 1993 inception in Alaska, Robert has presented fresh music every week to make you dance or bring you solace, or both. DEEPER BLUES hosted by Chicago Bob Longmire Tuesday 7-8pm Deeper Blues is a time set aside for an in-depth focus on various aspects of blues culture: performers, styles, social issues and more, with about 2/3 music and 1/3 stories of background and context. Every week we focus on a different performer or topic for an hour to enjoy learning more of this uniquely American culture. In the next few weeks we’ll focus on blues from three companies. JAZZ NOTES hosted by Bill Mercier Tuesday 8-10pm July 19 We’ll be listening to jazz greats like Kenny Garrett, Clifford Brown, and Eliane Elias, as well as lesser known artists like Steve Lehman, Knut Riisnaes, and Patricia Brennan. In addition we’ll hear two “What’s New?” segments. In our first hour we’ll hear from guitarist Randy Napoleon with three from his new release, Puppets: The Music of Gregg Hill. In our second hour we’ve got three from pianist Michael Orenstein off his new album Aperture. July 26 This is our special Jazz Port Townsend edition of Jazz Notes where we will be devoting almost our entire show to artists who will be appearing this week at Centrum’s Jazz Port Townsend. We’ll hear from Wycliff Gordon, Jay Thomas, Matt Wilson, Terell Stafford, George Cables, Jeff Hamilton, Grace Kelly, John Clayton, and more. The only break we’ll be taking from the list of Jazz Port Townsend stars will be to hear our “What’s New?” segment which this week will feature the highly acclaimed new release Belladonna by guitarist Mary Halvorson.
