WHEREAS, Jefferson County has declared surplus and sold certain property in
western portion of the County under Deed recorded in Vol. 116, Page 287, AFNll-
0690 dated June 11, 1947, and;
WHEREAS, in the sale of the property the County retained oil and gas rights
to the property, and;
WHEREAS, the County has no interest in perfecting these rights nor is there
any indication that valuable oil and gas deposits exist which would benefit the
County through retaining these rights, and;
WHEREAS, the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) allows the County to
dispose of these rights through simple resolution and deed, and;
WHEREAS, the underlying fee owner wishes to sell the property and the
purchaser wishes to restore these rights to the original property, and;
WHEREAS, the purchaser is a conservation organization who has no interest
in the oil and gas rights other than to transfer them as part of the fee property to
the U.S. Forest Service to be added to the Olympic National Forest.
NOw, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the oil and gas rights retained on
the property referenced on Exhibit A are hereby declared surplus and of no value to
Jefferson County, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, said rights are hereby transferred by Quit
Claim Deed to the Trust for Public Land (Exhibit B), for the purpose of restoration
to the original property from which they were separated.

Release of oil and Gas Rights by Jefferson County
Dear Mr. Goldsmith:
I understand that a resolution will be proposed to the
Jefferson County Board of Commissioners authorizing the county to
dispose of oil and gas rights it has to a portion of the property
that The Trust for Public Land will be acquiring from Rayonier
Timberlands Operating Company and subsequently conveying to the
National Forest Service to be added to Olympic National Forest. I
have prepared a Quit Claim Deed that will convey the County's oil
and gas interest to The Trust for Public Land as a part of the
transaction described above. Please review the deed, make any
changes you deem necessary or appropriate, or call me if you have
any questions or comments. If the deed is acceptable to the
County, please arrange to have it executed and acknowledged, and
then returned to me. I will see that it is placed into escrow and
recorded as part of the closing of the transaction.
