County of Jefferson
IN THE MATIER OF DECLARING AN }
ECONOMIC DISASTER AS A RESULT}
OF THE CLOSURE OF THE SALMON}
SPORT AND COMMERCIAL FISHERY}
RESOLUTION NO. 51,..94

WHEREAS, due to a continuous decline in the number of salmon returning to
the waters of Washington State, the Pacific Fisheries Management Council has closed the sport
and commercial salmon fishery for the remainder of 1994, and
WHEREAS, this fishery, either directly or indirectly, supports a number of
businesses and families in Jefferson County, and
WHEREAS, the closing of this fishery will result in substantial and
unrecoverable economic losses and impacts to those businesses and the families they support,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the closure of the salmon industry
constitutes an economic disaster to dependant and associated businesses and citizens in
Jefferson County, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Jefferson County Board of
Commissioners request that the Governor of the State of Washington likewise proclaim a
economic disaster and request immediate federal assistance for those adversely affected by the
disclosure.
