WHEREAS, under the current Washington law, a County Commissioner cannot benefit
from the setting of his or her salary until such time as said County Commissioner has been reelected
to office, however, Rc.W. 36.40.205 permits the Jefferson County Commissioners to increase the salary
of the County legislative authority prior to the election of a county official to that position, which shall
become effective upon the commencement of the term next following such election; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the County Commissioners to take the appropriate steps
through adoption of a resolution to make provision for the orderly and automatic adoption of future
adjustments of salaries for County Commissioners.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOL VED, by the Board of Jefferson County
Commissioners, that pursuant to Rc.W. 36.40.205, the County Commissioners' annual salaries are
hereby established as follows, effective as of January 1 of each year:
The salary of the Jefferson County Commissioners for Districts I and
II shall increase $1,500,00 (One thousand five hundred and no/H)()
dollars) each year beginning January 1, 1993 calculated to be
$32,500.00.
The salary of the Jefferson County Commissioner for District III shall
remain as outlined in Resolution 78-90 for the years 1993 and 1994.
Effective January 1, 1995, the salary shall be increased to be equal to
that of the District I and II Commissioners.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that effective January 1, 1993, and each January
thereafter, District I and II Commissioners' base salaries of that date (as outlined above) shall be
increased automatically by 90% of the percentage increase in the Consumer Price Index for Urban
Wage Earners and Oerical Workers (CPI-W) All City Average (1982-84), for the period September
of the prior year to September of the current year, but in no event shall the cost of living adjustment
exceed 5%. The District III Commissioner will continue to receive the base salary as outlined in
Resolution No. 78-90 until January 1, 1995 when the salary will be increased to be equal to that of
District I and II Commissioners and thereafter receive the automatic cost of living increase outlined
herein, and;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the benefits provided to the other County Elected
Officials will continue to be provided to County Commissioners, and;
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the County Commissioners' salaries shall be
reviewed annually during the budget process. Should the economic climate indicate that salary
increases should not be paid or that reductions should be made, such changes may be made by the
County Commissioners without further resolution.
