STATE OF WASHINGTON
In the Matter of Establishment}
of a Jefferson County Law and}
Justice Council }
RESOLUTION NO. 95-92
WHEREAS, RCW 72.09.300 provides for establishment of a local Law and
Justice Council; and,
WHEREAS, members of the Jefferson CountylPort Townsend law and
justice community have been meeting on a regular basis since 1989 to maximize local
law and justice resources, reduce duplication of services and share resources between
local and State governments; and,
WHEREAS, the above meetings have been convened under the designation
of the Jefferson County Law and Justice Committee and have regularly included the
Sheriff, Port Townsend Chief of Police, County Jail Manager, the Superior Court Clerk,
the District Court Clerk, and the Juvenile Court Commissioner, as well as
representatives of the Superior Court, District Court, Prosecuting Attorney, Department
of Corrections, District Court Probation, Juvenile Court Services, Alcohol!Drug Abuse
Treatment Center, Board of County Commissioners, Public Defender, and other
departments; and,
WHEREAS, the local legislative representatives of the 24th District have
met with the Law and Justice Committee on an annual basis to discuss mutual concerns
regarding law and justice; and
WHEREAS, the Law and Justice Committee has been responsible for
planning and coordinating a united budget proposal in order to make the most efficient
use of resources; and
WHEREAS, local funding of law and justice services has continued to
increase at a greater rate than the rate of State assistance;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Jefferson County Law
and Justice Committee is hereby recognized to have been acting as a defacto Law and
Justice Council pursuant to RCW 72.09.300; and
SEAL:
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Jefferson County Law and Justice
Committee shall be designated as the Jefferson County Law and Justice Council and
shall present to the Board of County Commissioners a membership roll of the offices
and departments as required by RCW 72.09.300 and shall comply with the terms of
the enabling legislation,
