Resolution No. 99-91
WHEREAS, the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners recognizes the obligation to comply with
the laws and regulations regarding intellectual property; and
WHEREAS, Jefferson County recognizes that is in the interest of the County to implement compliance
standards that will serve to protect the County's investment in information processing,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the following policy regarding computer software
practices be implemented:
1. Jefferson County licenses the use of computer software from a variety of outside companies,
Jefferson County does not own this software or its related documentation and, unless authorized by
software developer, does not have the right to reproduce it.
2. With regard to use on local area networks or multi-user systems, Jefferson County employees shall
use the software only in accordance with the license agreement.
3. Jefferson County employees shall not be indemnified nor represented by Jefferson County for
intentional failures to comply with licensing agreements. However, employees shall be familiar with
such agreements prior to use of software. The Equipment and Rental Repair section of Public Works
shall be consulted if any questions exist.
4. Jefferson County employees shall undertake to load new or personally owned computer software on
any Jefferson County owned computer only after submitting such software for comprehensive testing
and licensing verification by the Equipment Rental and Repair section of Department of Public
Works, the County's designated agent for these purposes.
