In downtown Port Townsend, behind the Back Alley Tavern and all other buildings in that parking lot/alley area, we have a considerable problem with propane tanks. There are currently at least six (6) separate propane tanks that are located sporadically and, in several instances, unsafely in this general area. If my information is correct, the County owns the property behind this area, going up to the bluff. If this is correct, I would like to request that the County grant permission for the location of a single, large propane tank to be located right at the base of the bluff, away from the buildings, with individual metered lines installed to each business or residence that requires propane. Your approval of this plan would be contigent that whomever installs the tank and lines will assume liability and responsibility for their proper installation, maintenance and safety. This proposal will allow an existing unsafe situation to be corrected in the best interest of the citizens of Port Townsend, fire and safety.
