RESOLUTION NO. 24--87
TO ESTABLISH AN OFFICIAL COUNTY CENTENNIAL COMMITTEE
AND AUTHORIZE IT TO CONDUCT ACTIVITIES
WHEREAS, the 1989 Washington Centennial Commission is
coordinating the statewide celebration of the state's 100th
birthday in 1989, the bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution in
1987, the bicentennial of the voyages to Washington of Capt.
George Vancouver and Robert Gray and the sesquicentennial of
Charles Wilkes in 1992, and encourages the formation of county
centennial committees to plan activities to commemorate these
events; and
WHEREAS, funding and other assistance for state
centennial planning and activities is available to counties from
the 1989 Washington Centennial Commission; and
WHEREAS, people of Jefferson County wish to conduct
planning activities and commemorate projects for the celebration
of state centennial in Jefferson County; and
WHEREAS, the Jefferson County Commissioners believe
that the county should take the lead in establishing a compre-
hensive, coordinated program of centennial observances in the
county that is open to all county residents;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Jefferson
County Commissioners establish an official county centennial
committee to serve as the prime coordinating body for local
celebrations of the state centennial, the bicentennial of the
U.S. Constitution, and the commemoration of early maritime
explorations, with the following members:

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the official county
centennial committee shall provide for an open, public process,
including an appeals process, for the development of plans for
the celebration of the state centennial and shall comply with
all local, state and federal civil rights and anti-discrimination
laws and regulations in the conduct of its business and activities;
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the county centennial
committee submit to the county commissioners annually a program
plan and budget for the expenditure of funds used for centennial
purposes.
