Sam, Echo and Ryan are AmeriCorps members assigned to work with Habitat EJC. Their terms of service wrap up at the end of July. They have been a huge part of our success over the last
year. While we are sad to say goodbye, we are also incredibly grateful for their service. Thanks to their contributions, homes have been built on schedule, correctly and safely. Be
sure to catch them while they are still here and wish them well.

Sam came to the PNW from California and has a background in biomolecular engineering and bioinformatics. They found a natural fit in hands-on work and group leadership on the Habitat
build sites.

Echo is East Jefferson County born and raised. She is highly creative, crafting her own woodwork and jewelry. She has spent two years building Habitat homes in EJC, a community she is
proud to support.

Under the Tent: Housing Conversations
This summer, a number of groups are coming together “Under the Tent” to promote and discuss ways to make a difference in our housing crisis.
Attend the summer's second "Under the Tent" housing forum to learn what’s happening, what each organization is doing, and how you can get involved. The gathering will be at 22nd Street
and San Juan in Port Townsend from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on July 28th.
As a lead up to the event, there will be a free screening of the movie Community First: A Home for the Homeless about a permanent shelter village for those who experience chronic homelessness
filmed in Austin, TX. The movie will be held inside the Evangelical Bible Church at 3 PM with people moving outside under the tent about 4 PM.
People can attend either or both portions of this and the event is free, open to the public, and geared, this time, toward looking at what our local faith-based communities can do to
address our housing crisis.

Homeownership Tip: Summer is a time of growth in the garden and not just for the plants you want. Weeds are a problem many homeowners face when trying to keep their gardens looking good.
One solution is to mulch. Alder chips provide a good mulch that not only suppresses weeds, but helps to retain water, builds the soil, and reduces soil compaction, all things that are
beneficial to the plants you want in your garden. Additionally, Alder chips are less likely to produce slivers when you are working in your garden.
