RESOLUTION NO. 67-87
A RESOLUTION PLACING ON THE NOVEMBER 3, 1987 BALLOT
THE ISSUE OF DESIGNATING JEFFERSON COUNTY AS A
NUCLEAR WEAPONS FREE ZONE
WHEREAS, the issue of designating Jefferson County as a
"Nuclear Weapons Free Zone" has come to the attention of the Board of
Jefferson County Commissioners; and,
WHEREAS, this issue was the topic of four public hearings
held on February 2, 9, 17 and March 2, 1987 by the Board of County
Commissioners in various communities around the County; and,
WHEREAS, the public hearings indicated a need to base a final
decision on this issue upon an advisory vote of the County's
electorate.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, that the question of
whether Jefferson County shall be designated as a Nuclear Weapons Free
Zone be submitted to the voter~of Jefferson County at the election to
be held November 3, 1987. --
IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED, that the proposition shall be
submitted to the voters in the following form:

ADVISORY BALLOT
DESIGNATING JEFFERSON COUNTY AS A
NUCLEAR WEAPONS FREE ZONE
Do you favor the establishment of a Nuclear Weapons Free Zone
which would prohibit all development, testing,
transportation, deployment, storage, manufacture or usage of
nuclear weapons in Jefferson County?

IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Clerk of the Board shall
deliver to the Jefferson County Auditor a true copy of this resolution
at least forty-five (45) days prior to the date of the election
provided for herein. Such County Elections shall be noticed and
conducted in the manner provided by law.
