RESOLUTION NO. 41·85
PROPOSED APPLICATION TO THE
COMMUNITY ECONOMIC REVITALIZATION BOARD
FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR THE
RECONSTRUCTION OF UNION WHARF
WHEREAS, Jefferson County, City of Port Townsend, and Washington State
Department of Natural Resources have recently obtained joint ownership of the
Union Wharf facility t.hrough default of the previous owners; and
WHEREAS, the Union Wharf facilit.y is the last remaining portion of an
extensive dock and wharf system which has served the community for the past 117
years; and as such, the wharf is a major element within the Port Townsend
Nastional Historic District; and,
WHEREAS, the Union Wharf facility is in immediate need of renovation to
stabilize the facility for future uses; and
WHEREAS, the ownership agencies have been contacted by a private party
with expressed interest in utilizing the Union Wharf facility; and
WHEREAS, the Qwnership agencies require financial assistance in the timely
financing of needed renovation; and
WHEREAS, Jefferson County is eligible to apply to the Community Economic
Revitalization Board (CERB) with a proposal to fund the necessary renovation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Jefferson County agrees to act
on behalf of the City of Port Townsend and the Washington State Department of
Natural Resources to prepare and submit an application to CERB to finance the
necessary improvements.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said application be developed in a timely
fashion to accommodate the potential user.
